Some things arrive already knowing what they are. This Wedgwood Blue Jasperware ashtray, dated 1959 and made in England, is one of them — composed, classical, completely itself.
The white relief decoration features Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology — born of Poseidon and Medusa, tamed by Bellerophon. The border is adorned with grape clusters and trailing vines, a hallmark of Wedgwood's neoclassical tradition. The powdery blue remains the most coveted of all Jasperware colorways.
Collectors display these as trinket dishes, shelf accents, or grouped in small wall galleries .
