  • Vintage Ashtray, Promotional Item from Warren Cadillac Inc., Sabin Industries Ceramic, 1903 Cadillac Automobile, Vintage Collectibles, Cadillac Dealership Gift Idea, Mancave, Gifts for Men, Minneapolis Memorabilia, (Discontinued)
  • Made in McKeesport, PA, USA
  • Vintage: 1946 to 1960's
  • Details:  This vintage collectible, advertising ashtray, is in pristine condition.  These were sold by Sabin Industries, as both novelty items and as promotional items.  The ones given away as promotional items typically had the vendor's name, and maybe an address, written in gold on the bottom or back.  The ashtrays with the 3 indentations / grooves, like this one, were some of the earlier models.  Later other manufacturers issued fancier styles with double grooves (totaling 6), or they would add a swirled border, gold in the grooves, etc.  The decal on this one is a 1903 Cadillac Automobile, these decals were not unique to Sabin Industries, they were used by many other companies.  This piece is stamped on the back, in gold letters: "Warren Cadillac Inc." (see below for a brief history of this dealership).  We know that Sabin Industries used 22KT gold on their ashtrays, it's not marked, but we're guessing this one is also 22KT.  Makes a great gift for an old car collector or for a tobacciana memorabilia / advertisement collector.  Looks great in a library, man cave or study.

Warren Cadillac Inc, in Minneapolis, MN was founded by H. E. Warren, President Located at 14th Street and Nicollet in Minneapolis, they were both a retailer and distributor of Cadillacs.  Sometime during their operation they moved over to Wayzata Blvd.  We could find no information on when they opened or closed, however, we found that Anderson Cadillac, Inc. had replaced them by 1986.

Sabin Industries was founded in 1946 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, by Samuel Sabin and Leonard Berkovitz.  Sabin China didn't make their own items, they would purchase undecorated blanks from ceramic manufacturers and decorated them, mostly with decals, and sold them to retailers as promotional items or resellers as novelty items.  Some items were sold to trading stamp companies and were used as "prizes" for having filled in a book of stamps.  These ashtrays were made from the late 1940's through to the early 1960's.  The name "Sabina" came from Mr. Berkovitz's sister, Sabina (Sabina still lives, now in Parkland, FL).   The company also sold plates, cookie jars, piggy banks, etc.  In 1967, Sabin China Co. was sold to Chase Enterprises, the owner of Mount Clemens Pottery in Michigan and Mr. Berkovitz left the company.  In 1979 there was a great fire and the Sabin company location was destroyed, they did not rebuild and the business was entirely moved to Mount Clemens, Michigan.
