This antique silverplate teaspoon was made by Holmes & Edwards for the Hotel Imperial in New York — engraved with the hotel's name and wrought in the English King pattern, one of the most distinguished hotelware designs of the era. The Hotel Imperial stood on Broadway at 31st Street, a grande dame of the Gilded Age that closed in 1947. What remains of it are objects like this: small, silver, improbably preserved.

A rare advertising and hotelware collectible, a piece of New York history, or a singular gift for someone who collects the beautiful remnants of vanished places.
