The Curtis Candy Company was founded in 1916 in Chicago, IL by Otto Schnering.  The Baby Ruth candy bar, introduced in 1921, was one of their best known brands.  They had several other brands, some you'll recognize:  Butterfinger, Polar Bar, Coconut Grove, Jolly Jacks, Penny Log, Saf-T-Pops and lots of "penny candy".   In 1964 Curtis Candy was sold to Standard Brands.  In 1981 they were acquired by Nabisco, later by Nestlé in 1990.  Today their brands, (that still exist), are owned by the Ferrara Candy Company (part of Ferrero).
