Homer Laughlin began in East Liverpool, Ohio in 1871 and didn't start marking their wares with manufacturing dates or shape names until 1911–12. This shaving mug carries only the simple "Homer Laughlin" stamp, which places it before that change. Shaving mugs like this were part of elaborate Victorian vanity sets that included wash basins, pitchers, chamber pots, soap dishes, and hair receivers.
