Chero-Cola was founded by Claud A. Hatcher, a pharmacist from Columbus, GA, who began bottling ginger ale (Royal Crown Ginger Ale) and root beer in 1905.  In 1910 he introduced Chero-Cola to compete with Coca-Cola.  By 1912 this cola had become so popular that Claud changed the company name to Chero-Cola.  Unfortunately, Coca Cola was not happy and in 1920 sued for trademark infringement, forcing Chero-Cola to drop “cola” from its name.  This lead to a decline in the market and in 1924 they discontinued production of Chero-Cola.  Fortunately, in 1924 Chero-Cola added NEHI to its line of soft drinks which became so popular they again changed the company name, this time to “Nehi Corporation” in 1928.  In 1934 they came back in the Cola business with RC Cola which was so successful the company AGAIN changed it’s name to Royal Crown Company, in 1955.
