  • Pattern: Cut Diamonds
  • Vintage: circa 1970’s
  • Details:  This is a really nice liquor glass bottle, ideal as a decanter.  Originally sold with Crown Royal Canadian Whisky, most likely as a holiday promotional item.  It has an elegant and easy to identify shape, with a lovely cut diamonds pattern on the bottom half and upper half.  The center has large ovals and one side has an etched grape bunch within the center oval and the other side has the Royal Crown logo etched within the center oval.  The bottom of the bottle, as well as the top of the stopper have a large starburst pattern.  It retains its original stopper, also with indented ovals all around.  This would make a lovely vintage addition to your bar, plus the side story of Royal Crown is pretty interesting too, see below.  A great gift for a bottle collector and great as a liquor decanter and bar decor.  When entertaining, it’s good to have a few different liquors and wines already decanted for guests.  Makes a pretty water or grape juice bottle for the table too!

Samuel Bronfman owner of Bronfman’s Distillers Corporation acquired Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, located in Waterloo, Ontario in 1928.  Bronfman’s empire grew selling the brand names that had been already developed by Seagram like: Calvert, Dewar’s, and Seven Crown.  He renamed the company “Seagram Co. Ltd.”, and became an international distributor of alcoholic beverages, and a diversified conglomerate extending to New York City, where he built the now famous Seagram Building on New York’s Park Avenue (completed in 1958) .  The story of the Crown Royal brand goes back to 1939, when King George the VI and Queen Elizabeth were scheduled to visit Canada.  No other royal had ever made the very long and arduous trip across the Atlantic to visit Canada, so it was a very big deal.  For the occasion, Samuel Bronfman asked their developer to create a special batch fit for the royals.  After more than 600 blends, Crown Royal was born.  The whiskey was a hit and all 10 cases of whisky bottled and packaged in Crown Royal’s purple bags were consumed during their train trip across Canada. The whisky was sold only in Canada until the 1960s, when it was first introduced to international markets. It is the top-selling brand of Canadian whisky in the United States.
