  • Details:  This is a Guaranteed Authentic Paul Simon After Show Cloth Backstage pass during his Graceland Concert Tour.   This was a culturally significant concert and a great part of music history.  The concert was a first for Simon because they had very little rehearsal, this music was new in the USA, they were all playing together onstage for the very first time, and the twenty-four-member group of black South African singers and musicians had never performed in a concert.  Simon was very nervous that it would all go very wrong.  But he believed the music would bring whites and blacks together in racial unity, and he was certainly correct.  They performed at Radio City Music Hall for five completely sold out concerts.  The South African songs and his beloved mbaqanga, the swinging Soweto sound he loved, was loved by the audience as well.  Graceland was the seventh studio album recorded by Paul Simon as a solo artist.  He produced it himself and released it on August 25, 1986.  This album became Simon’s most successful studio album, he had not reached this level in the music charts since the 70’s.  Graceland won the 1987 Grammy Award for Album of the Year.  It is estimated to have sold 16 million copies worldwide.  This pass was found at the OTTO warehouse and they are very uncommon. It is Unused in Pristine Condition, highly suitable for framing.

Paul Simon became famous as part of a duet called “Simon and Garfunkel”.  Alongside singer Art Garfunkel, whom he met in Queen, NY in 1953, they became one of the bestselling music groups of the 1960s.  They had several memorable hits but had a rocky relationship and eventually split up in 1970.  Paul Simon has had a distinguished career both with Garfunkel and on his own.  He has received many awards including 12 Grammys.  He is in the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Simon and Garfunkel and as a solo artist.   He was invited to perform in South Africa by Nelson Mandela and was the first American artist to perform in post-apartheid South Africa.
