We were able to date this vase because of how the name is written on the bottom.  We learned that after about 1955 to the 1960’s they marked their pottery: “Hand Painted in Rhodes by IKAROS Pottery”, Using the English S (vs Greek letter Σ).  The company went through hard times and by 1984 it was almost out of business, but unfortunately not long after, it closed due to the owner’s death.  Today they have re-opened as I.C.A.R.O. (ICARO Rodi) ceramics. We also learned that the numbers on the bottom refer to the number of pieces made.  So this piece is 13th out of just 25 pieces made, that’s a very low number and you’ll be hard pressed to find another vase exactly like this one.  All their pottery is hand made in limited numbers, the less pieces that were made, the more valuable the items because many were broken or lost over the years.  Also, the more valuable pieces are the ones that have gold around the top.  We’re happy we could share all this with you so you’ll enjoy knowing more about your vase.
