The story of this plate is almost as interesting as the plate itself — a pattern that passed through three companies and two eras before arriving here.
Originally produced by Federal Glass as Madrid from 1932–1939, the molds were revived in 1976 for the Bicentennial (renamed Recollection, with an embossed '76). When Federal Glass closed, Indiana Glass acquired those molds, removed the date, and continued production. This amber square plate is from that Indiana Glass era. Warm, honeyed glass with the familiar geometric pressed pattern — whether it's a 1930s Federal or a 1980s Indiana, the design is the same. We've photographed it thoroughly to help any serious Depression glass collector make their own determination; we're transparent about what we know and what we don't. At 9 inches, these work equally well as luncheon, dinner, or generous salad plates.
