  • Pattern: Unicorn
  • Made for Parfums Corday Inc, NY
  • Vintage: 1950's - 1960
  • Details:  This very rare ceramic box shaped like a unicorn was originally sold with Parfums Corday's 8 oz fluffy milk bath in their popular fragrance, "Toujours Moi" (Always Me).  The perfume was first introduced in 1924, we believe this beautiful ceramic box is from the 1960's and even though the milk bath is long gone, it remains to be enjoyed as a trinket box, vanity dish, jewelry box or just lovely on its own as an accent/decor piece.  It retains its original foil sticker which reads among other things: "Toujours Moi Unicorn Silky Milk Bath, Blended in USA with Imported and Domestic Essences, Dist. Parfums Corday, Inc, NY NY, 10019".  This is a beautiful part of the cosmetics industry history, great for a collector.  Would make a beautiful vanity box, hostess gift, even as kids room decor, so many uses!

Parfums Corday was a French company founded in 1924 by Blance Antoinette Rose Reneaux, (who after marrying Bertie Istvan Arvoy, became Blanche Arvoy).  It is said that Mrs. Arvoy named Corday after Charlotte Corday a French woman from the late 1700's  who is best known murdering  Jean-Paul Marat, a journalist and politician with ties to the French Revolution.  Parfums Corday opened it's USA operations in the 1940's.  Although Toujours Moi was not their most popular fragrance, it was immortalized in song.  The story goes that in 1936, the British composer Harry Revel met a woman at the bar of the Hotel George V in Paris, who was wearing Toujours Moi, he so loved her perfume, that Revel visited Corday in France and composed a series of musical numbers called Perfume Set To Music which included six Corday fragrances:  Toujours Moi, Tzigane, Possession, L'Ardent Nuit, Jet and Fame.  In July, 1961, Max Factor acquired all the outstanding stock of Parfumerie Internationale Corday, Paris as well as Parfums Corday, Inc., New York and its various subsidiaries.
