One teapot. Embossed porcelain modeled on the stucco ceiling of a Prussian palace. Pink moss roses. Gold accents. A pineapple finial. Rosenthal at its most celebrated.
This is a vintage teapot in the Moss Rose pattern on Rosenthal's Sanssouci form, made in Germany. Circa 1950–1973, based on the backstamp — pre-1974 production, before the pattern was reintroduced in the 1980s with slight differences (the later decal uses only two roses; this one does not). Holds 5 cups. Excellent condition — no chips, cracks, or scratches, barely any wear. One piece available.
The Sanssouci form has one of the most distinguished histories in European porcelain. Frederick the Great commissioned the original relief porcelain from KPM in 1745 to replicate the Rococo stucco ceiling of the Great Hall at Schloss Sanssouci in Potsdam. The pattern was widely copied, but Rosenthal was the only manufacturer to acquire the license from KPM to produce it true to the original. The pineapple finial — a traditional symbol of hospitality — is correct to the pattern.
Moss Rose was one of Rosenthal's best-selling patterns across their entire history. If you are collecting the pattern, note that several different makers produced Moss Rose with slightly different decals — this is the genuine Rosenthal.
