- Pattern: Vintage Silhouettes, Horse Drawn Carriage, Framed
- Made in USA
- Vintage: 1950's -1960's
- Details: This lovely set of framed printed silhouettes are typical of Victorian style decor popular in the 1940's through the 1960's. Originally invented in 16th Century Germany, known as Scherenschnitte, (scissor cuts), this art form was brought to America in the 18th Century. Here they became known as "silhouettes" because Etienne de Silhouette, a French finance minister, loved having these portraits done of himself. Silhouettes were highly popular from about 1790 to 1840 but once cameras came into use, they faded away, only to be revived in the 1940's and again today. These two are actually prints, rather than paper-cut. One features two women in a horse-drawn carriage with a fringed canopy. The other features a horse-drawn carriage driver wearing an elegant top hat and his very elegant passenger with her parasol. Both are framed in round frames with a metal decorative ring for hanging. Unfortunately these are unmarked so we're unable to tell you more beyond the description. These would look really elegant with the frames re-painted in black or antique gold. Today, silhouettes are back in style and can be mixed with other portraits, among wall plates, or on their own. One look through Pinterest and you'll be amazed at the flexibility these offer for decor!
- Material: Paper, Wood-Look Plastic (frames)
- Dimensions: 6.0 inches in Diameter, 1.0 inch Deep
- Condition: Vintage - Used. Acceptable Vintage Condition. The frames are in what we would call "shabby-chic" condition, they have lots of scratches and wear. One frame has a crack on the side. All acceptable due to age/use/wear. If you love the look of time-worn pieces, then these will be perfect. If you're looking for something a bit more elegant then we recommend re-painting the frames and perhaps replacing the metal rings, purchasing new frames, or skipping these altogether. Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns. All Sales Final. Please remember these are ANTIQUE and VINTAGE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.
