Beer Stein, Old Spice, Columbia, Glass with Pewter Lid, Germany, Vintage

• Details:  This is a gorgeous Glass Beer Stein with Pewter lid.  The Schulton Company released a collection of these beautiful steins from 1986 to 1990, this one is the third in the series, released in 1989.  It has an etching of the grand old sail boat, the sloop Columbia, which won the America's Cup race in 1901.  The lid is made of pewter and it has a wonderful anchor and rope design.  The pewter lid mechanism on the side reads: "Old Spice" on one side and "W. Germany" on the other.  The initials ALWE are embossed on the bottom , which is the German company ALWE Geschwister Weisbender UG, so this is an authentic German Beer Mug!  This mug makes a great addition to an existing collection, or the perfect father's day gift for a beer drinker or a sailing enthusiast, or even better, a German beer drinker who's also a sailboat enthusiast!!   Great addition for a bar or man cave decor.

• Dimensions:  Glass is almost 6.0 inches Tall (without the lid), and 3.75 inches in Diameter (at its widest point). The top opening is 3.0 inches in Diameter.  The glass with lid, including lid handle, is 7.0 inches Tall.

Columbia was an American racing yacht built in 1899 for the America's Cup races. She was owned by J. Pierpont Morgan and Edwin Dennison Morgan of the New York Yacht Club.  She is famous for having won all three races against the British challenger "Shamrock" in the 1899 America's Cup, as well as the defender of the eleventh America's Cup race in 1901 against British challenger Shamrock II. She was the first vessel to win the trophy twice in a row, (a record not equaled until Intrepid's back-to-back wins in 1967 and 1970.

Old Spice is a registered trademark of Procter & Gamble, a very recognizable American brand of male grooming products.  It was originally manufactured by the Schulton Company which was founded in 1934 by William Lightfoot Schultz and called Early American Old Spice of 1937, which was actually for women, followed with Old Spice for men in 1938.  In June 1990, Procter & Gamble purchased the Old Spice brands from the Schulton Company.  The most recognizable  Old Spice branding is the buoy-shaped bottle.  Old Spice has a relationship with NASCAR and has sponsored many cars throughout the NASCAR world from 2004 to 2010. Interesting fact, the pewter lid is embossed by ALWE with "W. Germany" (West Germany), which is where they were located, one year after, in 1990, West and East Germany were united.
