Nine inches tall each, dressed in soft spring pastels, faces painted with the kind of fine detail that separates a quality import from the rest — this Victorian couple by Lipper & Mann is in absolutely pristine condition, which is increasingly hard to find in pieces of this age. Most likely imported from Japan during L&M's golden years, between 1949 and 1962. They're substantial pieces; they'll need plenty of packaging, so please keep that in mind at checkout.

Lipper & Mann was founded in 1946 in New York by Hal Lipper and Seymour Mann, initially importing wares from Europe and selling to major department stores, independent shops, and home furnishing stores. In 1949 they expanded into Japanese imports — figurines, dinnerware, tea sets — and built one of the most respected giftware importing businesses in the country. They are perhaps best known for their Blue Danube dinnerware pattern, introduced around 1951. In 1963, Seymour Mann bought out Hal Lipper and renamed the company Lipper International, Inc. They moved to Wallingford, Connecticut in the 1980s and remain in business today.

A beautiful pair for a maximalist or traditional interior, a curio cabinet, a bookshelf, or a figurine collector who appreciates something pristine with genuine provenance.
