She's dressed for the studio — artist's coat over a beautiful dress, curls escaping from under a large feathered hat, every detail painted with the quiet precision that made Josef Originals a household name among collectors. The Artist is one of the most sought-after pieces from the Careers Series, which also included The Teacher, The Nurse, The Opera Singer, The Florist, and The Actress. A rare find under any condition; rarer still with the original markings intact. Please note the condition details below before purchasing.

Josef Originals was the creation of Muriel Joseph George, who began designing figurines during the final years of World War II. (A label printer's misspelling turned "Joseph" into "Josef" — and it stuck.) Her earliest pieces were produced in California between 1945 and 1962, before manufacturing moved to Japan. This piece carries the Josef Originals signature with a circled "C" on the unglazed bottom and the original black foil "Japan" sticker. Muriel retired in 1981; she passed away in 1992.

A beautiful addition to any Josef Originals collection, and a great conversation piece for anyone who loves art, figurines, or the golden age of mid-century collectibles.
