New Mexico earned the name "Land of Enchantment" in 1941 — officially given by the tourist bureau, but really just confirming what anyone who had ever stood in that light already knew.
This mid-century souvenir plate carries the state's name in bold red western lettering on a rose and pink border with gold floral filigree — distinctly different from the greens used for other states, and all the warmer for it. The center showcases New Mexico's landmarks as mid-century travelers would have known them. Unmarked, but attributed to Homer Laughlin after comparison with known examples. A light scratch on the right border catches the light at certain angles, and there is a small amount of gold paint on the back — both consistent with age.
A meaningful gift for a New Mexico native, a Southwest enthusiast, or anyone who collects mid-century American souvenir ware.
