A charming gift for the Seuss collector, the early reader, or anyone who has always suspected Octember should be a real month.

Beginner Books was launched in 1957 by Theodor Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss, along with his wife Helen Palmer Geisel and Phyllis Cerf, with The Cat in the Hat as its first title, and it became a Random House imprint in 1960. Geisel wrote under the name Dr. Seuss when he also illustrated a book, and used the pseudonym Theo LeSieg, which is simply Geisel spelled backward, when someone else drew the pictures. Here that artist is Art Cumings, who brought the book's parade of wishes to life, from pickle trees to balloon pools.
