Richard Scarry (1919-1994) showed his portfolio to a Golden Books editor in 1948 after finishing his Army service, and spent the following decades illustrating for nearly every major children's publisher, including educational reader series like this one from Charles E. Merrill, well before his own Busytown characters made him one of the best-selling children's authors of all time.
