  • Details:  This is a really nice collectible from Avon.  These figurines were only given to the top Avon sales representatives to commemorate membership into the President's Club.  It is called the Mrs. Albee award and it's a porcelain figurine depicting Mrs. Albee (Persis Foster Eames Albee), who is considered Avon's first sales representative.  Mrs. Albee always dressed professionally when she did door to door sales, which was in the nineteenth century, so all these collectible figurines are dressed with the typical fashion of the times.  The piece is stamped on the bottom:  "PC 1996 Mrs. Albee Award.  This figurine was created exclusively for 1996 President's Club members.  It symbolizes the entrepreneurial spirit of Mrs. P.F.E. Albee, Avon's first Representative, whose hard work and vision determined Avon's early success.  Her spirit lives on today in your enthusiasm and dedication.  Congratulations!  Designed exclusively for Avon Products, Inc".  It retains its original label that reads: "Made in Mexico".   If you are an Avon collector, this will be a very nice addition to your collection.

Mrs. P.F.E. Albee (Persis Foster Eames Albee) was born May 30, 1836  and became an American businessperson and entrepreneur.  She was the first sales representative for the California Perfume Company, which later became Avon.  She is considered the first Avon Lady and is still highly regarded in the company.   She typically traveled by horse and buggy in her territorial district and by train into other states in the Northeast and recruited, trained, encouraged and managed many women to become sales agents and she did all this while wearing wonderful business outfits of the time.  Mrs. Albee was with the California Perfume Company for 25 years, she passed away on December 7, 1914.  It wasn't until much after her death that the company became Avon Products. For more than 80 years, Avon has been selling health and beauty products, personal care, jewelry, perfumes, clothing, and many other items.  Sometimes they package their products in beautiful decanters and other glassware that have become a favorite of collectors.  In the mid 1960's, Avon began producing novelty containers for perfumes.  Collectors loved the new products, and Avon began creating more collectibles to draw in their customers.  Although most of the collectibles have lost value today, there are still many collectors and many others who value the nostalgia these pieces have and the beauty they bring to their homes.  We read recently that Avon will be doing away with their collectibles, or at the very least reducing the number of collectibles that will be entering the market.   I can only guess, that for Avon, this is a strategy to increase demand in the future for a more limited supply of collectibles.
