La Flor De Luis Martinez Cigar Box Label, Genuine-Original, Unused – Antique

2 in stock

  • Made in: USA
  • Antique:  circa 1902
  • Details:  This is a very old cigar box label from the Martinez Havana Cigar Company.  It is a lithograph and it features a finely dressed woman handing our cigars to native children.  In the background, a large ship awaits in the bay.    What makes this label so great is not its age, (it's over 100 years old!), but also the high quality embossing and the gilding.  This label is slightly glossy, heavily embossed and gilded using heavy stock paper, heavier than some other cigar labels we've seen, all this makes it even nicer as a collector's item.   Copies of this label are everywhere, it is a rare find in this condition, original, unused, suitable for framing, and recommended to maintain this condition.
  • Material:  Paper
  • Dimensions:   9.25 inches Long and 7.0 inches Tall
  • Condition:  Vintage - Unused (Guaranteed Original).  This is an original, new old stock item, never been used, mint condition.  The paper is yellowing, more noticeable on the back side, but this is consistent with age.  Please remember these are VINTAGE and ANTIQUE items.  Every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.   Refunds will not be given unless there’s gross misrepresentation of condition.
  • Shipping is included on every order with some exceptions.  See FAQ's for exceptions.

The Martinez Havana Cigar Co was founded by Don Luis Martinez.  Don Luis was born in Cuba in 1896 and it is said he was rolling cigars by hand at the age of 12.  He is described as one of the most intelligent and amiable personalities in the Havana cigar business. By the age of 20, he was a cigar manufacturer in Havana, and by the time he was 25 years old, he owned the San Geronimo Tobacco Plantation.  In 1909 his Key West cigar factory was destroyed by a hurricane and he moved to a newly constructed building meant to be hurricane and fire proof.   He must have been right, The Martinez Havana Cigar Factory is one of only three masonry cigar factory buildings still remaining in what was once the cigar capital of the United States, Key West.  La Flor de Luis Martinez, the label featured here,  was their most popular brand.   In 1928 the J. C. Newman Cigar Company acquired the brand. Today, the Flor de Luis Martinez is the only Key West cigar brand still being produced by the Luis Martinez Cigar Company in Tampa, Florida.
