Collins and six friends who raised $8,000 to buy the Lancaster Carbon Company. A fire destroyed the plant in 1924, and it was rebuilt as a plant designed specifically for glassware. During the Depression the company survived by developing a 15-mold machine that could produce 90 pieces of blown glass per minute, which let it sell tumblers two for a nickel. Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation came into existence on December 31, 1937, when the Anchor Cap and Closure Corporation merged with the Hocking Glass Company. The word "Glass" was dropped from the name in 1969 as the company grew into an international business, and Newell Corporation acquired it in 1987.

Browse our shop for more Anchor Hocking and red glass to round out your collection.
