A great horned owl — the archetypal Wise Bird — sits in sharp profile against a full moon, the night sky dark around them both. The composition is elemental: owl, moon, darkness. Louis Roesch Co., printing fine California labels since 1879, understood exactly what they had in this image — something ancient, beautiful, and slightly mysterious. The Wise Bird name leans into it completely. This owl does not merely decorate a label. It presides over one.

Frame it year-round as wildlife art, as a piece of nocturnal natural history, or as an elegant nocturne for a wall that deserves more than the expected. For those who celebrate Halloween, it is also one of the finest seasonal decor pieces in the crate label world — a genuine antique with the atmosphere of the holiday built directly into its imagery. At 9.0 by 9.0 inches it suits a standard 10x10 or 11x11 frame — the square format is unusual and makes it stand out in any gallery arrangement.

A wonderful gift for an owl lover, a bird art collector, a Florida citrus history enthusiast, a Halloween decor collector, or anyone who wants something genuinely striking on their wall that carries a century of atmosphere.

A note on crate label collecting: Original lithographic crate labels from this era are increasingly scarce. NOS examples like this one — never used, never folded, in original unused condition — represent the best of what survives. These are molded glass, they have a two-mold mark that indicates they were potentially made between the 1840s and early 1900s. Of the two lamps, one looks like it has updated electrical (circa 1940s - 50's?), the other is much older. The electrical plug on the older lamp is round, two-prong plug, not polarized with screws and wires visible. The socket is from "Arrow H&H", (Arrow-Hart & Hegeman - H&H merged with Arrow in 1928). The other lamp has a newer plug and a non-branded switch. We don't recommend using either lamp unless professionally rewired. By purchasing these lamps you agree to Hold Harmless Antigo Trunk from any loss, liability, damage or cost, that may be caused from the purchase of these lamps. These have the lean, amber glass bodies, with six point bases, made by Westmoreland starting in the 1930's. We are not experts, we like to share all the relevant information we find, however, if you're a collector, and these details are important to you, please review pictures, do your own research & determination. These are timeless lamps, a beautiful addition to any decor style from: Traditional, Boho, Country, Farmhouse, Victorian or Retro, they work very well with all. These will be heavy, please keep that in mind at check-out.

Materials: Glass

Dimensions: 11.5 inches Tall (including socket), 4.0 inches at Base (from point to point).
