Gasoline stations, plumbers, beauty salons, even large companies like Coca-Cola, have all gifted items, including thermometers. They figured these would not be thrown away as easily as a sign, so the practice continued well into the 1960's. These became so popular as home decor and collectibles, that in the 1980's some companies made reproductions with a retro-feel. This piece is a true original, not a reproduction, and it's in perfect working condition. This has a much-loved 1945 print from Henry Hintermeister called "Hunting Dogs". Shows two dogs by a lake, busy at their favorite activity, while their owner hides in the brush. This piece was given out during the holidays in 1952 with a new mini calendar for the upcoming 1953 year, on the back. The advertisement is for Samuel Galinsky, a plumbing and heating company in Jacksonville, FL, (no longer in business). It is framed in a gold-tone metal frame and it can be hung on the wall. This piece would make a nice addition to any man-cave, home bar, or rec-room. Sometimes they package their products in beautiful decanters and other glassware that have become a favorite of collectors. In the mid 1960's, Avon began producing novelty containers for perfumes. Collectors loved the new products, and Avon began creating more collectibles to draw in their customers. In 1966, Avon introduced a cologne for men called Leather, which came in a boot-shaped bottle, which was the one of the earliest novelty decanters the company produced. In 1968, Avon found success selling men's Sterling Six aftershave in a bottle shaped like classic roadster car, the container sold so well, Avon came up with more whimsical ways to hold fragrances. Besides early cars, Avon made bottles for perfume, aftershave, cologne, bath oils, and lotions in the shapes of race cars, trucks, boats, and ships, which came in a range of glass colors. Avon started selling dinnerware, glasses and other home items starting in 1975 with the ruby red 1876 Cape Cod Collection. Smith Glass Company has been in business for over 100 years. Originally founded in 1907 by Louis E. Smith and Charles Wible. They used Smith's name because they thought it was easier to remember than "Wible." In 1909, the L.E. Smith Glass Co., of Jeannette, PA, purchased the Mt. Pleasant, PA plant of the Anchor Glass Co. (in a bankruptcy sale), which then re-opened under Smith in January 1910. Mr. Smith didn't stay with the company very long, he left the company in 1911, became a salesman for Westmoreland Glass, however, his name continued to be used. L.E. Smith began producing colored glass in the mid 1920’s, making pink, green, amber, yellow, amethyst and cobalt pieces as early as 1926. In the late 1920’s, Smith Glass devised a formula for black glass that set it apart from other manufacturers. The company expanded to make depression glass dinnerware, hurricane lamps, lamp shades, perfume bottles, cigarette lighters, etc. In the 1950's, they expanded again into decorative glassware. In the 1960's they experimented with iridescent glass and in January 1971 they went into production with Contemporary Carnival Glass Also in 1971, the company was purchased by Owens-Illinois, with Smith operating as a wholly owned subsidiary. L.E. Smith stopped production in June 2004 and was nearing liquidation when Scottish-born Pittsburgh businessman William Kelman purchased the company, they were unable to grow the business and Smith Glass was sold in bankruptcy in 2005.

Vintage Basket, Fruit Basket, Hand Painted Pears, Metal Wire Decorative Basket, Kitchen Decor, Rustic Style, Country Farmhouse, (Discontinued)

Made in USA

Vintage: 1960's - 1970's (estimated)

Details: Such a cute basket!! This basket is made of very strong metal wire covered with plasticized paint, and has the cutest hand applied pears and leaves all around. The metal is an off-white, almost cream color, and the pears are yellow with shades of green and orange, just like a ripe pear would look! This is rustic, there are several areas with missing paint, and a little bit of rust, but that's what makes it so unique and a perfect vintage addition. Unfortunately it is unmarked, but based on the style and amount of wear, we're thinking it could go back to as late as the 1940's, but we are not experts, so please purchase this basket because you love its rustic beauty and handmade charm, not because of any pedigree it may, or may not have. Perfect for storage or decor, gorgeous with fruits on your kitchen counter. Perfect in a Country, Farmhouse, French Country or Shabby Chic home.

Material: Metal

Dimensions: 10.0 inches Tall (including handle), just the basket (not including the handle) is 3.5 inches tall. 8.0 inches in Diameter (top opening), 6.0 inches in Diameter (base)

Condition: Vintage - Used. Very Good, Nice Rustic Vintage Condition. Bartlett, an Oklahoma oil man, teamed up with George F. Collins, an East Coast glass man (owner of Premium Glass Co), and formed Bartlett-Collins Glass Co. The company was well known for its hand-pressed and blown tableware, stemware, and kitchenware and kitchen lamps. In 1918, Bartlett and Collins had a falling out and Collins took over one of the plants which became Liberty Glass Co. Liberty Glass, meanwhile, concentrated on milk bottles. Even that soon changed with the addition of soda bottles. After years of continual shifting, both firms finally settled into long-term production patterns. Although Collins had left, the name 'Collins' was kept because his son, J.W. Collins, remained the vice president. In 1929, the word 'Glass' was dropped from the name and the firm became Bartlett-Collins Co. By the 1930's Bartlett-Collins was making the stemware, all by hand, in different colors like: pink, green and amber. However, by 1941, due to the high costs, all hand made glass production had ceased. In 1982, the Lancaster Colony Corp. acquired Bartlett-Collins but kept the name. Lancaster Colony was the parent company of Indiana Glass. Bartlett-Collins made mold blown glass items for Indiana Glass and Tiara Exclusives. Bartlett-Collins continued to operate in Sapulpa until 2008 when Anchor Hocking Co. purchased the property and closed down the plant. There were many popular products made in the Sapulpa plant and are highly collectible today including: cookie jars, drinkware, stemware, serving dishes, kerosene lamps, and decorative pieces such as bowls and vases.

Glass Beer Mug, Retro "Beer Will Change the World!", Collectible Advertising Breweriana, Mid Century Schlitz Advertising, Beer Lovers, Fun Bar Gifts, Bar Decor, Man Cave, (Discontinued)

Made in China

Not Vintage: 2009

Details: This mug is not vintage, but the look is very Retro, we thought you might enjoy it. A clear glass mug, all the fun is on the decal that reads: "Beer will Change the World! This mug remembers them.
This ceramic beer stein commemorates Panhard et Levassor's invention of the first modern transmission in 1895 — one of the foundational moments in automotive history. The decal features the pioneering vehicle, rich in detail and perfectly suited for an old car enthusiast's bar or collection.
A note on authenticity: this mug is marked "USA" on the bottom rather than the typical "McCoy USA" stamp, and the mark appears to have been applied with a tool rather than hand-carved as is standard on authentic McCoy pieces. We have seen this exact mug with a McCoy mark, and McCoy is well known for making commemorative steins — but we want to be transparent. This may or may not be authentic McCoy Pottery. Collectors can review the photos and make their own determination. If it turns out to be the real thing, you got a great deal.
