KPM developed the relief porcelain to mimic the Rococo stucco ceiling of the "Great Hall" in the castle. Although the Sanssouci pattern was highly popular and copied by many different manufacturers, Rosenthal was the only one that acquired the license from KPM to produce this porcelain true to the original.

Rosenthal was founded in 1879 as a family business by Philipp Rosenthal, who would purchase white ware from Hutschenreuther and sell designs, hand painted by his wife Maria, door to door. In 1891 he established a factory in Asch, Bohemia, and began production of white ware for use in his workshop. From 1897 to 1936 Rosenthal acquired several factories, and the popularity of the "Maria White" and "Moss Rose" patterns helped the business grow rapidly. Philipp Rosenthal died in 1937. The company has a long history and went through several changes and acquisitions, as well as numerous political issues during WWII, when Rosenthal porcelain was distributed in the USA by Rosenthal-Block China Corporation, a company founded by Joseph Block. Philip Rosenthal, Philipp's son, came into the business in the 1950s and grew it to be the market leader for high-quality porcelain and glassware in Germany. In 1969 the name Rosenthal Glas & Porzellan was shortened to Rosenthal AG. There is now a "Rosenthal Archive," a collection of around 15,000 exhibits from 130 years of company history, in the Porzellanikon State Museum of Porcelain in Hohenberg, Germany, including nearly all product designs from the company's foundation to today, as well as originals designed by artists such as Salvador Dalí, Andy Warhol, Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Raymond Loewy, and Walter Gropius.

Browse our shop for more fine porcelain to round out your collection.

Kerr introduced its Self Sealing jar back in 1904, and this one wears a hand-stitched pink piggy on its lid — a country-kitchen touch someone added decades later.

Maker: Kerr

Materials: Glass, fabric, plastic (red sealing ring)

Dimensions: 4.0" tall, 3.0" diameter (top); holds 6 oz to the fill line

Origin: USA

Era: Vintage, 1970s–1980s (estimated)

Condition: Very good vintage condition. Please read: The fired-on enamel vegetable decals are in immaculate condition, with vibrant color and no notable paint loss. The wire caddy is structurally sound, with genuine mid-century patina, and the wooden lids show minor wear. As is standard for 80-year-old utility glassware, the inner rims of the glass dishes show light historical roughness and chips from decades of careful use — completely hidden once the lids are in place and with no effect on structural integrity. One jar has a small chip on the rim. The spoons are not original to the set. Please review photos closely before purchasing, as all sales are final.

While individual McKee "Fridgies" are common collectors' items on their own, finding the original hostess set — complete with the elegant wire carrier rack and the easily lost round condiment jars, matching lids, and serving spoons (not original to the set) — is an exceptional rarity. Perfect for serving crudites', a burger topping bar, salads, and so much more.

McKee Glass Company got its start in Pittsburgh in 1852 before relocating to Jeannette, Pennsylvania, in 1888, where it grew into one of the country's major pressed-glass manufacturers through the first half of the 20th century. Alongside its decorative colored glass lines, McKee produced huge quantities of practical kitchenware — mixing bowls, canisters, and the refrigerator dishes collectors now call "Fridgies" — sold through five-and-dimes and department stores nationwide. This set carries McKee's identifying mark: a blank, concentric circle stamped into the glass bottom, left smooth at the center. That detail sets it apart from nearly identical dishes by rival Federal Glass, which always stamped an "F" inside a shield at the center of the same circle. McKee was acquired by Thatcher Glass Manufacturing in 1951 and continued production under new ownership afterward.

Care & Display: To preserve the vibrant 1940s enamel paint, this set is strictly hand-wash only.

Browse our shop for more vintage kitchenware and McKee glass pieces to round out your collection.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0624/1733/8577/files/IMG_8712_5b95f30d-ca2e-4be6-ae15-6c9db4407575.jpg?v=1788358771
